The first scientific classification for androgenetic alopecia with male and female patterns was established in 1951 by the English researcher James Hamilton.
The studies he carried out on various groups of people of different race and age, determined that hereditary, endocrine and age-related causes responsible for androgenetic alopecia are interdependent.
This conclusion remains valid today.
He classified the different states of male pattern androgenetic alopecia into 7 types with 8 degrees of hair loss.
This classification has become the reference point for evaluating the type of alopecia in males.
