Clinical trial carried out by the EVIC Society of Italy and supervised by Dermatology Professor, Leonardo Celleno.

Low frequency laser (TricoSTYM 3100) for alopecia or hair loss treatments.

Study carried out to verify skin tolerance and the effectiveness of the TricoSTYM TS-3100 low frequency laser as a bio-stimulator to help hair growth in subjects affected with androgenetic alopecia.

Method:

For the study, 20 male and female subjects were selected, between 50 and 60 years of age, and all affected by androgenetic alopecia.

Each subject underwent radiation with the laser on a bi-weekly basis. Each session had a duration of 20 minutes.

Evaluation:

On the skin tolerance of the treatment.

  • By means of dermatological control prior to starting treatment and 15 minutes after each radiation session.
  • By means of subjective evaluation of the volunteers who were subjected to the treatment.  Each one of them kept a diary about unwanted effects attributable to the treatment in question.

On the cosmetic effectiveness of the treatment.

  • By means of the microscopic analysis of the scalp hair, carried out at the beginning, after 60 days and 90 days of treatment.
  • By means of macro-photography of the hair and the scalp, carried out at the beginning, after 60 days and 90 days of treatment.
  • By means of the subjective evaluation of the volunteers who were asked to express their opinions regarding the following statements:
    • The treatment induces the growth of new hair
    • The treatment induces a reduction in the lightness of the hair.

Results:

1º. Evaluation of skin tolerance

The dermatological control and subjective evaluation of the volunteers participating in the experiment have shown that the treatment in question did not produce unwanted and/or collateral side effects in any of the subjects treated, showing optimum skin tolerance.

2º. Evaluation of cosmetic effectiveness (microscopic analysis and macro-photographs)

The results obtained in the microscopic analysis and the macro-photography of the hair and scalp, have shown that the treatment in question did induce a slight hair growth and a slight strengthening of same in 35% of the cases treated.

3º. Evaluation of cosmetic effectiveness (subjective evaluation)

In relation to cosmetic effectiveness, at the end of the treatment, the following was evident:

  • 60% of the volunteers noted that the treatment induced the growth of new hair.
  • 55% of the volunteers noted that the treatment induced a reduction of lightness.

Conclusions:

According to the experiment conditions adopted in this study, under both dermatological control and the subjective evaluation of the volunteers, the treatment in question has shown optimum skin tolerance.

The results obtained from the microscopic analysis and the macro-photography of the hair and scalp have shown that the treatment in question induced a slight hair growth and a slight strengthening of the hair, demonstrating the good cosmetic activity of the treatment to help with hair growth in subjects affected by androgenetic alopecia.

Such results have been confirmed in the judgement of the volunteers who have shown that the treatment in question induces the growth of new hair, with the resulting reduction in the lightness of same.
